COMMUNITY | Introduction
Lesotho, with a population of only 1, 8 million people is very challenged as a nation. The impact of the high rate of HIV/AIDS (+- 30%), and a population of whom 56% live on under $2 a day is struggling. The Poverty and AIDS pandemic led to a new phenomenon of abandoned babies. Since our establishment in June 2001 our Centre has cared for over 170 babies, and has seen over 70 adopted both locally and Internationally with the cooperation of Social welfare department of Lesotho. We have also placed 28 babies back into families and have lost 24 to aids related illnesses. We currently have 35 children aged between 0 – 4 years in our care. We have built the first phase of our centre in a community just 5 kms out of the capital city of Maseru but with very real social, financial and spiritual needs.
